Somegirls’ Pottery is the functional art and handcrafted works of ceramicist Dyana Fiediga a full time potter living and working in beautiful Hood River, Oregon at The Clay Commons, a community ceramics studio located at 500 industrial way. I make fun funky functional wheel-thrown pottery when I’m not busy teaching the amazing community of students here at the Clay Commons or choosing to be distracted by the adorable studio puppy Ms. Sergeant Lemon Pepper.
My Story
I have a BFA from Ohio University, where I focused on Art History and any medium of art I could get my hands on. I found, even then, that I was most drawn to the tactile nature of clay. Since, I have been an Environmental Educator, Permaculturalist, Mushroom Farmer, Gardening Coach/Teacher, Alaskan Set Netter, Landscape Designer/Installer, Rafting and Backpacking Guide and last but not least a Potter and Teacher.
In 2010, I met Jeremy Noet of Bluewater Pottery at the Bellingham Farmers Market and soon after, he gained a new family member and I gained a invaluable mentor. I worked in his studio until 2016, when I moved into making pottery full time.
I enjoy creating pots that are whimsical, political, and sometimes flippant with the underlying aesthetic of clean design and simple shapes. I am inspired by the natural world around me, my background in plants and permaculture, and my love of being in community.
I am a lover of questions and growth and have created a classroom and studio space to hold wheel throwing and hand-building classes that are open to the community and small groups. I find so much joy in opening my doors and providing a safe and comfortable space for others to open themselves and explore what they can create with their own hands using clay.
